Sing a Song
Five Muddy Pigs
Down at the farm
By the big blue lake
Were five muddy pigs,
For goodness' sake.
One jumped in, and the mud washed away.
Now that pig is ready to play!
(Repeat for four, three, and so on.)

Try This
Ask your child to draw five dogs, four cats, three birds, etc. Together, count out the animals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 dogs). Have your child tell you what sound that animal makes and make that sound for each animal they drew (five dogs = bark! bark! bark! bark! bark!). Practice with at least three different animals. Bonus: Teach your child a new animal whose sound they don't yet know, or even ask your child to make up a new creature for this activity! Using vocabulary words like animal names and noises helps your child develop their oral language skills, which are an important part of literacy.
